History
The Blue Blazer was created by Jerry Thomas in 1862. Known as the father of mixology, Thomas introduced this cocktail in his book 'The Bartender's Guide' as a way to demonstrate flamboyant bartending techniques.
Instructions
Step 1.
- Prepare two heatproof mugs or glasses.
Step 2.
- In a mixing glass, combine 1.5 ounces of whiskey and 1 ounce of boiling water.
Step 3.
- Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture gently.
Step 4.
- Ignite the mixture carefully using a long lighter.
Step 5.
- Pour the flaming cocktail back and forth between the two mugs to mix its contents and create a blue flame.
Step 6.
- Once mixed, extinguish the flame before serving.
