History

The Chicago Sour originated in the late 19th century, evolving from the classic whiskey sour. It became popular in Chicago's vibrant bar scene, where bartenders began adding red wine for extra complexity and depth.

Instructions

Step 1.
- Add bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white (if using) into a shaker without ice.
Step 2.
- Dry shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to emulsify the egg white.
Step 3.
- Add ice to the shaker and shake again for another 15 seconds until well-chilled.
Step 4.
- Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass.
Step 5.
- Top with a splash of red wine by pouring it over the back of a spoon to create a layered effect.
Step 6.
- Garnish with a lemon wheel and a cherry.
