The Saratoga cocktail dates back to the late 19th century, named after the summer resort in New York. It reflects the era's penchant for sophisticated drinks that combine aromatic spirits and vermouth.

Instructions

Step 1.
- Chill a coupe glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water.
Step 2.
- In a mixing glass, combine 2 ounces of rye whiskey and 1 ounce of sweet vermouth.
Step 3.
- Add a dash of Angostura bitters.
Step 4.
- Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir until well chilled, about 30 seconds.
Step 5.
- Remove the coupe glass from the freezer or dump out the ice water.
Step 6.
- Strain the cocktail mixture into the chilled coupe glass.
Step 7.
- Express the oils of a lemon twist over the drink and discard the twist or drop it in as garnish.
