- Chill a coupe glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water.

- In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz of Cognac, 0.5 oz of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 0.75 oz of simple syrup.

- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.

- Strain the mixture into the chilled coupe glass.
Step 5.
- Twist a piece of lemon peel over the drink to release the oils, then drop it in as a garnish.
