Originating in the early 19th century, Hot Whiskey Punch became a popular warming drink, especially in Ireland, as an antidote to the cold and a social companion during winter gatherings.

Instructions

Step 1.
- In a saucepan, heat 4 cups of water until just boiling.
Step 2.
- Add 1 cup of brown sugar and stir until dissolved.
Step 3.
- Add 1 cup of whiskey and stir well to combine.
Step 4.
- Squeeze the juice of two lemons into the mixture and add the spent lemon halves for flavor.
Step 5.
- Add 1 teaspoon of whole cloves and 2-3 cinnamon sticks to the pot.
Step 6.
- Allow the mixture to steep for 5 minutes over low heat without boiling.
Step 7.
- Strain the heated punch into mugs and garnish each with a cinnamon stick and a lemon wheel.
