History

Originating in the 1940s in New Orleans, the Hurricane was created by a bar owner trying to sell excess rum. It quickly became a popular drink associated with Mardi Gras and the city’s lively atmosphere.

Instructions

Step 1.
- Fill a shaker with ice.
Step 2.
- Add 2 oz of light rum, 2 oz of dark rum, 1 oz of passion fruit juice, 1 oz of orange juice, and 3/4 oz of simple syrup.
Step 3.
- Shake well until chilled.
Step 4.
- Strain into a hurricane glass filled with ice.
Step 5.
- Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.
