History

The Espresso Martini emerged in the 1980s, created to combine the energizing effect of espresso with the sophistication of a cocktail.

Instructions

Step 1.
- Chill a martini glass by filling it with ice water and letting it sit for a few minutes.
Step 2.
- In a shaker, combine 2 oz vodka, 1 oz freshly brewed espresso (cooled), 1 oz coffee liqueur, and 0.5 oz simple syrup.
Step 3.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until well chilled.
Step 4.
- Strain the mixture into the chilled martini glass, filling it about halfway.
Step 5.
- In a separate glass, combine 0.5 oz heavy cream and 0.25 oz vanilla syrup, then use a milk frother or whisk to froth until slightly thickened.
Step 6.
- Slowly pour the frothy cream over the back of a spoon, allowing it to float on top of the espresso mixture for a layered effect.
