The Rum Julep emerged in the 1860s as bartenders sought to adapt the beloved mint julep formula using rum, especially popular in tropical regions. Its cool, refreshing nature made it a favored choice during warm weather events and celebrations.

Instructions

Step 1.
- Muddle the mint leaves gently in the bottom of a julep cup to release their oils.
Step 2.
- Add the rum and simple syrup to the cup.
Step 3.
- Fill the cup with crushed ice, and stir gently until the cup is frosted.
Step 4.
- Top off with more crushed ice to form a dome-like shape.
Step 5.
- Garnish with a fresh mint sprig.

2 oz White rum
10 leaves Mint leaves — fresh
0.5 oz Simple syrup
1 cup Crushed ice
1 sprig Mint Sprig — for garnish (garnish)
