Instructions

Step 1.
- Chill an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice water.
Step 2.
- In a separate mixing glass, combine 2 ounces of rye whiskey, a sugar cube, and a few dashes of Peychaud's bitters.
Step 3.
- Muddle the sugar and bitters together until dissolved.
Step 4.
- Add ice to the mixing glass and stir until the mixture is well chilled.
Step 5.
- Empty the ice water from the Old Fashioned glass and rinse it with a small amount of absinthe, discarding the excess.
Step 6.
- Strain the chilled whiskey mixture into the prepared glass.
Step 7.
- Garnish with a twist of lemon peel, expressing the oils over the drink before placing it in the glass.
