History

The Sazerac dates back to the 19th century and is one of the oldest cocktails in the United States, emblematic of New Orleans culture.

Instructions

Step 1.
- Chill an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice water.
Step 2.
- In a separate mixing glass, combine 2 oz of rye whiskey, 1 sugar cube, and a few dashes of Peychaud's bitters.
Step 3.
- Add ice to the mixing glass and stir until well chilled.
Step 4.
- Discard the ice water from the Old Fashioned glass and rinse it with absinthe, discarding any excess.
Step 5.
- Strain the chilled mixture into the prepared Old Fashioned glass.
Step 6.
- Express the oils from a lemon twist over the drink and drop it in as garnish.

Ingredients

2 oz Rye Whiskey
1 cube Sugar cube
3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
0.25 oz Absinthe — rinsed in the glass
1 piece Lemon twist (garnish)
