History

The Sazerac cocktail originated in New Orleans in the mid-1800s, traditionally made with rye whiskey. This variation incorporates sherry, adding depth and a unique herbal note to the drink.

Instructions

Step 1.
- Chill an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice water.
Step 2.
- In a separate mixing glass, add 2 oz of Fino sherry and 1 dash of Peychaud's bitters.
Step 3.
- Add ice to the mixing glass and stir the mixture until well chilled.
Step 4.
- Discard the ice water from the chilled Old Fashioned glass.
Step 5.
- Add a few drops of absinthe to the glass, swirling it to coat the inside.
Step 6.
- Strain the sherry mixture into the prepared glass.
Step 7.
- Express the oils from a lemon twist over the drink and drop it into the glass as garnish.

2 oz Fino Sherry
1 dash Peychaud's Bitters
0.5 oz Absinthe (optional)
1 piece Lemon twist — expressed and used as garnish (garnish)
